The future of E3 remains uncertain following the cancellation of the 2020 event and the criticism of this year’s performances. If something has marked the events of recent years it is undoubtedly the absence of Sony and PlayStation, who decided to get off the train and leave E3.
The companies have worked on their own events, but the reality is that they have left much to be desired in their latest presentations. Partly because of this, some industry analysts believe Sony is making a big mistake by leaving E3.
Among them is Michael Pachter, a well-known Wedbush Securities analyst, who recently criticized the Japanese company for abandoning such a major event. He also claimed that, from his perspective, Sony and PlayStation are going in the wrong direction.

Pachter criticizes Sony for its strategy and for leaving E3
During one of his recent shows, Pachter reaffirmed his position since 2019: Sony is making a serious mistake by not attending E3. Pachter believes that his absence is a strategic mistake, as it is not worth saving the investment to attend the event and miss the opportunity to make big announcements.
Because of this, Pachter believes that Sony is not heading in the right direction and that it has to do something to change in the coming months. “I think Sony is going in the wrong direction. I think they are making a big strategic mistake by leaving E3. I think that’s just the wrong thing to do, and I’m hopeful they will figure it out and come back next year,” the analyst said.
Pachter believes that Sony and PlayStation should return to E3, as being part of the event and sharing news for all the fans is always good and fruitful. The analyst affirmed that it is not a smart move to want to save a few million dollars, but to lose the visibility that the event gives. Because of this, he believes that the company’s strategy is “a bad move.”
“Having an event and having all of your fans focus on that one event is really powerful, and I think whoever is advising their management that skipping E3 is a smart, cost-conscious move is simply wrong. They’re just dumb, “Pachter stressed.
The analyst concluded with strong statements, as he assured that “Sony is and will continue to be the biggest loser of E3” for simply not going to the event. Pachter is hopeful that the company will change its vision and show up at E3 2022.
