During the official countdown of the presentation of the Formula 1 single-seater 2022 concept, which took place today at Silverstone, Ricciardo was caught by an open microphone as he spoke quite frankly.
On social media, his phrase has become almost a catchphrase: “No, it’s terrible. It’s shit, it’s worse.”
Not having the images of what Ricciardo was looking at at the time, the hypothesis that immediately took over is that he was talking about the 2022 car after seeing it for the first time.
Within the official presentation, Ricciardo was also interviewed and gave a very diplomatic answer on the new car.
“I like the back,” he said. “It looks pretty old school, it reminds me of 2008 in style. The front is very different, but like all things, the more you stare at it the more it will start to feel normal.”

However, speaking of the affair later, Daniel made it clear that the comments captured by that open microphone had nothing to do with the design of the 2022 car.
“Probably, I was talking about something else, because to be honest we have been talking about a lot of things,” said the Australian.
“To be honest I don’t remember saying anything like that, because I actually thought it was cool. I wouldn’t have been so aggressive, maybe just about the coloring, but I never would have said something like that about the car.”
Ricciardo said he was really confused looking back at the conversation in which he may have said that sentence.
“Now I’m really curious,” he said. “Was I standing next to Lando? I don’t swear around Lando, because he’s still young enough.”
“I’ll clarify that I definitely didn’t think it was shit. In fact I really think the rear is nice, like I said. However there is no negativity around the new car I think.”
