AC Milan was left by important players such as Hakan Calhanoglu and Gianluigi Donnarumma because their contracts expired (Milan were unable to convince them to sign new contracts). But on the one hand they are also spending on players.
After recruiting Mike Maignan from Lille as a replacement for Donnarumma, Il Rossoneri will be strengthened by experienced striker Olivier Giroud. The French striker was recruited with a tag of two million euros from Chelsea.
Maldini confirmed that the 2018 World Cup and Champions League winner will soon undergo a medical in Milan. While confirming it, the Milan legend also revealed the reason for Stefano Pioli’s club to recruit him.
“Yes, Olivier Giroud should have arrived tomorrow (for a medical in Milan). Olivier is a champion, he did great things with France and Chelsea,” Maldini was quoted as saying by Football-Italy.
“He is a very reliable player and that is what we are looking for, because we have the youngest squad in Serie A, so we need some players with more experience.”
The 34-year-old player has just signed a new contract with Chelsea, but this was done by the club so that Giroud did not go free (free agent).
Together with Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Giroud will add experience to the Milan squad that will play in the Champions League. Giroud has scored a total of 90 goals in 255 Premier League games and has scored 39 goals in 119 games for Chelsea.
