Italy’s victory over England in the Euro 2020 final was greeted with joy by Alessandro Florenzi. According to him the Italian victory at Wembley felt very special and he dedicated it to all Italians around the world.
In the final match against England, Italy was actually surprised by the host’s quick goal through Luke Shaw’s flick in the second minute. Gli Azzurri could only equalize in the second half through Leonardo Bonucci in the 67th minute, taking advantage of the chaos in front of goal.
Despite continuing to press England, Italy in normal time and extra time failed to penetrate the tight defense of Gareth Southgate’s troops. In the penalty round, Gianluigi Donnarumma’s brilliant performance that beat two English executioners guaranteed a second European Cup title for Italy.
“We dedicate this victory to all Italians in the world, because we once again proved that we are special people,” said Florenzi as reported by Football Italia.
“The title goes back to Rome, they used the wrong word for that sentence. This win doesn’t exist without teamwork, and I think we showed that from the start.”
