Mayors of 4 municipalities: smaller village parties should also receive compensation
Smaller village festivals must also be financially compensated if they cannot continue due to the corona measures. The mayors of Arnhem, Tilburg, Zwolle and Doetinchem will make that appeal to the outgoing cabinet on Monday in the General Newspaper. According to the mayors, the organizers of small parties are “not always” eligible for credit from the government guarantee fund. Peter Snijders, the mayor of Zwolle and chairman of the IJsselland Security Region, will raise the issue in the Security Council on Monday.
The Zwollenaar receives support from his colleague, mayor of Doetinchem Mark Boumans. “I think that the national government should properly compensate the catering entrepreneurs and event organizers through the self-invented slogan ‘dancing with Janssen’,” says Boumans.
Previously, everyone who qualified could voluntarily have the Janssen vaccine shot, after which they immediately received a vaccination certificate that gave them access to events and nightclubs. After an explosive increase in the number of positive tests last week, which were traced to catering establishments, among other things, the caretaker cabinet decided to tighten the rules again. Vaccination certificates are ‘only’ available two weeks after full vaccination, the catering industry must close at midnight, everyone must have a permanent seat at events and nightclubs and discotheques must close until at least 13 August.
“You cannot cancel everything at once while people have already paid their bills,” said a spokesman for Tilburg mayor Theo Weterings in the newspaper. AD. Due to the new measures, various events at the Tilburg fair have been canceled. The fair itself, from mid to late July, will continue.
The government guarantee fund, containing 385 million euros, is intended to compensate organizers if their festivals cannot take place due to the corona measures. The allowance only applies to paid events, while village festivals are often free and therefore ineligible.
