The court in Arnhem will give a written decision on Wednesday morning in the appeal that the gymnastics union KGNU has lodged against the outcome of the summary proceedings of gymnastics coach Vincent Wevers. The gymnastics union appealed because, according to the KNGU, the ruling in the summary proceedings was incorrect on several points. The hearing was held on Monday.
On June 18, the judge ordered the KNGU to nominate Wevers at the NOC*NSF sports umbrella for the Games and to “do everything in its power” to encourage NOC*NSF to grant him an accreditation. The judge also attached a penalty of 200,000 euros. According to the preliminary relief judge, the association had not been able to substantiate sufficiently that there were serious reasons for leaving Wevers at home.
The KNGU announced at the beginning of April that it would not nominate Wevers as a member of the coach team for the Tokyo Games. The association still stands behind that decision, which is why it applied for a so-called turbo emergency apple.
