Team Fortress 2 it quickly became one of the most iconic multiplayer experiences in history since its launch in 2007. This thanks, in large part, to its colorful characters that are already part of mainstream culture. That said, and despite having been on the market for more than 10 years, Valve’s hero shooter showed signs of life and recently broke a new record for simultaneous players on Steam.
According to SteamDB data, Valve’s shooter managed to maintain 151,253 simultaneous players on Friday, June 25, which narrowly surpasses its previous record of 147,380 concurrent users that was achieved in December 2020.

Similarly, player interest in free-to-play is still palpable. We say this because, at the time of writing, there are approximately 139,675 simultaneous users, an impressive achievement when we consider that the hero shooter debuted more than a decade ago.
Now, what is the reason for the rebound in players? The reason may be behind the most recent update that hit the title on Thursday, June 24, which added 18 new cosmetic items and introduced new measures to combat pesky bots.
Are all Team Fortress 2 players real?
For those who do not know, for a long time Team Fortress 2 suffers a major invasion of bots, which leave hateful messages in text chat and saturate the voice channel with annoying noises.
Therefore, it is easy to think that a large percentage of the 151,235 players that the current record contemplates are bots. However, on the official subreddit of Team Fortress 2 many users pointed out that only a few thousand such users were fake.

Either way, it appears that the most recent update to TF2 managed to partially reduce the efforts of the bots, since their presence in the games is less in recent days. This was perhaps a sufficient pretext for thousands of people to enter once again Valve’s chaotic hero shooter.
