shafts – He said it and repeated it dozens of times: “Don’t keep asking me about my future, I’ll decide during the summer”. But today, Valentino Rossi he inevitably had to respond almost and exclusively to questions about 2022.
Inevitable, because in officially announcing the agreement between VR46 and Ducati for three years, the Saudi prince, the great financier of the whole operation, declared, in black and white: “I would like to see Valentino Rossi racing in the next few years (in the next few years, not only in 2022 … NDA) in our “Aramco Racing Team VR46” together with his brother Luca Marini”. In short, all we needed was the prince …
“I’ve talked to him a few times – says Valentino –, has always pushed me to continue in 2022, but I did not expect him to say so also in the official press release… ”.
As always, also in this case Rossi speaks quite clearly about his future.
“The prince is pushing for me to go racing in my team with Ducati, but it will be very difficult for that to happen. My idea and my words about the future are always the same: I haven’t decided yet, I’ll think about it better during the summer, I will talk about it with the team and with Yamaha. The results are fundamental, with these it is difficult to continue, as well as it’s complicated to think about going racing with Ducati… With Yamaha the relationship is very good, my heart will always remain with this manufacturer, with which I have achieved the best results of my career ”.
Is passion enough to continue?
“It is clear that this is not a job, you have a good life, you do not do it for money: here, not only me, we are all passionate, you understand as a child that you have this passion. I. I have a great passion for this sport, I still enjoy it, but the results are also very important to enjoy being a pilot. There is so much stress and pressure here that comes from outside and from you too. Being a pilot is nice, but you have to understand if you can achieve certain results ”.
I don’t think we need to add more. A few more words can be said about the team.
“I am happy and proud that the VR46 team arrives in MotoGP: so many people work on this project, it is nice to see the Academy riders grow”.
You were in negotiations with other manufacturers, why did you choose Ducati?
“When you make a negotiation of this type you have to think about many aspects: at the end you had to choose between Yamaha and Ducati. We have a good relationship with Paolo Ciabatti, with Gigi Dall’Igna: Ducati did a great job in 2021, the bike is very competitive and it’s Italian. They have always shown themselves very well disposed towards the Academy pilots, he has always supported them: I’m very happy with this agreement “.
Marginally, we are talking about the Dutch GP
“Assen is a great track for me, but everyone likes it: it’s a historic track, the GP has always been on the calendar, the design is beautiful. They gave me the keys to the circuit: for me it is an honor, I also have those of Laguna Seca. It’s not bad… Compared to before, the track is now shorter, but it is always fascinating ”.
