After the disappointing performances of Le Castellet, Ferrari seeks redemption on the Austrian track. Leclerc: “In qualifying we will be more or less where we were in France, we hope for a better race”. Sainz: “Forbidden to make mistakes”
Reset and restart: this is the goal of Charles Leclerc and Carlos Sainz, as well as Scuderia Ferrari, after the disappointing weekend on the French circuit of Le Castellet. No break, we fly to the Red Bull Ring for the Styrian GP (here the TV timetables). The Formula 1 circus will also remain here for the ninth round of the season for a back-to-back all made in Austria, home of Red Bull but which never got pole position on this track.
Charles Leclerc: “In qualifying better than in the race”
Thus Charles Leclerc in the press conference on Thursday: “We are working to solve the problems seen at Paul Ricard, we are focused on this, even if we have yet to find definitive answers. In terms of performance we may still have some problems, in general I think that in qualifying we will be more or less where we were in France and I hope the race pace is better than that of Paul Ricard. I have complete confidence in the engineers – he added – I am convinced that we have many very competent and good people in the team and I am convinced that, once they understand the reason for the problems, they will find a solution. This is one of my favorite circuits, short and fast, I appreciate the pace but I have no particular secrets for this track ”.
Sainz: “No mistakes in qualifying”
It is a concentrated Carlos Sainz that you see at the press conference before the Austrian weekend: “As a team we were a bit surprised with how we went to France, we certainly can’t be happy with it, with a lot of degradation regarding the front tires. We can now experiment and improve to optimize the overall package. In these days we have analyzed the data to understand how the car behaved. At the moment we can only limit the problems ”. The Ferrari driver then talks about the Red Bull Ring: “I like the track, it’s fun for both the drivers and the public. Here the DRS is very powerful, with three straights in the first part of the circuit, while the central sector offers fast corners. You can’t make the slightest mistake on the fast lap because you lose a lot of time in proportion to the lap time ”. And he closes: “The season is intense, but when I’m around the circuits I don’t miss home. I do what I love on weekends and so I’m fine with it. I wouldn’t change my life for anything in the world, I enjoy the moment as much as I can ”.
