The Atlanta Hawks basketball players have taken the lead in the NBA Eastern Conference finals. The Hawks won their first game against Milwaukee Bucks in the best-of-seven series, 116-113. Trae Young collected no less than 48 points for the team from Atlanta.
Led by 22-year-old Young, the Hawks become the surprise in the play-offs. The team finished fifth in the eastern division in the regular season and already eliminated two higher-ranking clubs with the New York Knicks (fourth) and Philadelphia 76ers (first). The Bucks finished third in the regular season and started the series in front of their own audience on Wednesday evening, but Greek star Giannis Antetokounmpo and his teammates lost to Young and co in the first game. Khris Middleton tried to force extra time in the closing seconds, but his attempt for a three-pointer bounced off the ring.
Antetokounmpo scored 34 points and 12 rebounds, Jrue Holiday provided 33 points and 10 assists. “We have to do a lot better in the second game,” said Bucks coach Mike Budenholzer. “Young is a great player and he played fantastic. But we feel we can do better than we showed.”
