An interesting news related to Amazon comes to us just in Prime Days, since according to an investigation the company destroys thousands of products a week in excellent condition, at least this is what the television channel ITV News says.
The data disclosed details that the discarded products are those that were not sold in a long time or those that were returned by the buyers of the site, and clarifies that most of this merchandise, such as screens, drones and even laptops, is in perfect condition. or even with their original and sealed boxes.
The investigation was carried out in the Amazon warehouse in Dunfermline, United Kingdom, with the collaboration of a former employee of the place, who revealed that the boxes of the products are marked with a label to be destroyed. In addition, they added that on one occasion more than a dozen containers with thousands of face masks in their original packaging were destroyed.

The information shared by the channel clarifies that the distribution of the products for destruction depends on their type, the electronic devices are sent to a waste management center, and the others to landfills.
Amazon ensures that they do not destroy the products
On the other hand, the company assured in a statement that the merchandise is not sent to landfills in the United Kingdom, in addition to that its priority is to resell, donate to charities or recycle any unsold product. They even clarified that their last resort is to send the articles to power generation programs, but that they are working to reduce that amount to zero.
Despite these statements, ITV News mentioned that in one week 124,000 items were marked for destruction in that warehouse, and only 28,000 for donations.
It should be mentioned that, in case this situation is true, Amazon is not doing something illegal, and the reason why it would destroy so many products is easy to explain. The model of their business is that sellers decide to store their merchandise directly with them, but if a product is slow to sell, the cost of its storage increases, so it is cheaper to dispose of it than to keep saving it.
If you ever wondered what happened to the purchase that you returned, it seems that this investigation already gave us a clue, and although the situation does not break the legality, it has the potential to harm the environment.
We will remain pending on this topic to share more details with you.
