From a few minutes to an hour and a half: the Friday meeting which involved the drivers, Mario Isola (Pirelli) and Michael Masi (Race Director), turned out to be a river meeting, in which all the doubts raised after the Azerbaijan Grand Prix were to be resolved, in which Lance Stroll and Max Verstappen suddenly found themselves with the left rear tire bursting without stressing the set of hard tires, particularly in terms of laps and pressure parameters set before using the tire set. Several pilots have already reported what happened during the meeting, below are the testimonies of Sergio Perez, Daniel Ricciardo and Carlos Sainz reported by the British newspaper Racefans.net.
Tires: Verstappen dissatisfied with the explanations
Sergio Perez: “Pirelli has made it clear to everyone that no team has cheated. There have been assumptions by some media that some teams have cheated on the level of pressures. This was not the case and Pirelli stressed that the media misinterpreted what was communicated. No single team was to blame. Pirelli stressed that what was done was within the regulation ”.
Tires and weight: Hamilton has the solution
Daniel Ricciardo: “I must say that before the meeting I was not calm after what happened in Baku, but I left the meeting satisfied. After Azerbaijan it was common to wonder if any team was breaking the rules or if there was a problem with the material supplied by Pirelli. It was a meeting that allowed everyone to better understand what happened ”.
90 minutes of responses to the pilots
Carlos Sainz: “Honestly, I put myself in Pirelli’s shoes and it must be recognized how difficult it is to be in their role. Cars are getting faster, but they weigh more and more. This means that the tires are subjected to really extreme stress and loads. We told Pirelli to always choose caution and we support them. Our priority is to run safely, because we don’t want accidents ”.
