The Citizen Council for Security and Justice of Mexico City opened its complaint line and chat so that as of Thursday, in the middle of the electoral ban, people report electoral crimes such as coercion and buying the vote.
The reports received will be shared with the Electoral Institute of Mexico City (IECM) and with the Attorney General’s Office (FGJ) to follow up on the events.
The president of the Citizen Council, Salvador Guerrero Chiprés, stressed that Mexico City is one of the safest entities and with fewer reports of electoral violence in the country and that the election will consolidate the democratic and peace vocation that characterizes the national capital. .
“A concrete way of committing ourselves to participation is also to report when propaganda has not been withdrawn from the public thoroughfare as established by law, withdraw any that we may have in private homes and contribute to ensuring that all the electoral material withdrawn is channeled to processes. recycling ”, he added.
Citizens will be able to call before, during and after Sunday’s election day to report irregularities of which they are victims or witnesses or to receive guidance in case of doubts about electoral crimes.
The Citizen Council reported that in the first four months of this year, the Executive Secretariat of the National Public Security System reported 564 complaints of electoral crimes at the federal level, 79 of them are in Mexico City.
In addition, in a report by the consulting firm Etellekt it was specified that between September 2020 and May 2021, Veracruz, Oaxaca and Puebla accumulate 31% of attacks or crimes against politicians, while the capital of the country represents 3.4%.
“The construction of peace in a democratic state demands the committed and informed participation of the citizenry, because crimes, violence and impunity, in electoral matters, are fought with the casting of the vote and the denunciation.”
Guerrero Cyprus recalled that the electoral crimes that the law provides are to seize, destroy, alter voter credentials, the nominal list, electoral records or packages; request votes in exchange for money, request evidence of the vote, go to vote with a credential that does not correspond to him or “carry” voters on the day of the day.
He said that citizens can dial the support lines from this Thursday.
