The work on Copyright and its protection, promotion, promotion and dissemination, promotion and / or promotion of copyright and related rights of its owners, conducting studies aimed at systematizing and sharing “best practices” in the use and exploitation of copyright ; and the preparation of calls and / or contests to stimulate the creation of works and their publication, as well as their promotion and dissemination SOGEM Y CHEAP signed yesterday the Framework Collaboration Agreement.
The president of the Board of Directors of the National Chamber of the Mexican Publishing Industry (CANIEM), Juan Luis Arzoz Arbide, and the president of the General Society of Writers of Mexico (SOGEM), celebrated that from now on the general bases are established to develop joint activities in cultural matters, and for the promotion and dissemination of literary works in any of their formats, adaptations and forms of exploitation, in favor of a culture of legality and respect for copyright.
“The Agreement regulates the relationship between Sogem and Caniem, we had many, somewhat informal relationships, and this agreement consolidates tasks that benefit authors and publishers,” said Juan Luis Arzoz Arbide, who said that during the pandemic reading among Mexicans as confirmed by the 5% increase in digital book sales in 2020, compared to 2019, which was 2%.

With the signing of the Agreement that will be valid for two years, the publishers ‘union and the authors’ society will also work on the organization of book fairs and / or any event whose purpose is the promotion, dissemination, exploitation and / or commercialization of literary works of its members and affiliates; as well as in the elaboration, development, application, administration and joint execution of courses, workshops, conferences and symposia, both face-to-face and virtual (video conferences), on copyright and related rights.
One of the tasks that they will also carry out has to do with the development of campaigns against the illegal reprographic and digital reproduction of literary works, which together with anti-piracy and the promotion of copyright, are campaigns that Caniem has undertaken with greater force.
Gerardo Luna Islas said that this agreement integrates writers, both national and foreign, from the literary, dramatic branches of radio, film, television and in general any type of literary works, and affirmed that it links two organizations that represent the fundamental links in a chain, which begins with a writer and ends with the reader.
