NAPLES. Dozens of angry people attack a man, beat him savagely and throw him in a garbage can. The police intervened, saving him from this real lynching. The episode, which took place this afternoon in Scampia, a neighborhood on the outskirts of Naples, follows by a few hours another attack against the man’s brother and his wife, who were beaten up last night near their home. Both raids would have had the same motivation: to “punish” mistreatment and abuse, including sexual, against three children, the couple’s children. The complex story begins last night. The parents of the three children – he 36, she 28, resident in the “Celestial Vela”, one of the notoriously degraded hives of public housing in Scampia – are surrounded and beaten by a group of their relatives and other residents of the area. The attackers accuse them of violence against their three young children. The police intervene, with the Flying Squad and the Scampia police station. The couple ends up in the hospital of the sea, the three children entrusted to a social worker and hospitalized in the Santobono pediatric hospital. Here the doctors found various bruises on the small children, on the origin of which there are still no certainties; on the other hand, any hypothesis of sexual abuse is excluded.
This afternoon the children’s uncle, brother of the 36-year-old, is spotted near the family home. The tam tam starts and a group of people soon gathers, as in the night relatives of the children and residents of the celestial Vela, which thickens up to over 60-70 units. They surround the man, throw him on the asphalt, beat him and then throw him in a dumpster. Someone calls 113, the police arrive and rescues the victim from the fury of the attackers. The man ends up at Cardarelli, hospitalized for various injuries but not in danger of life. The brutal beating, taken with mobile phones, goes viral on the web. Police investigations are still ongoing on the whole affair.
