Washington.- The main editor of Associated Press on Sunday called for an independent investigation into the Israeli airstrike that collapsed a building in the City of Gaza that housed the AP, the Al-Jazeera broadcaster and other media, arguing that the public deserves to know the facts.
Sally Buzbee, the CEO of AP, said the Israeli government has yet to provide clear evidence to justify the attack that collapsed a 12-story tower in al-Jalaa.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu affirmed that this building, known as Torre Jala, where in addition to AP The Al-Jazeera chain had its offices, it also housed “an intelligence office of the Palestinian terrorist organization (…) that prepares and organizes terrorist attacks against Israeli civilians”, alluding to Hamas. Therefore, he added, “it is a perfectly legitimate target.” He also said that Israel “shares all this information with our American friends through our intelligence personnel.”
The Israeli army, which gave journalists from AP and other tenants about an hour to vacate, stated that Hamas it had a military intelligence and weapons development office in the building. The Israeli army spokesman, Lieutenant Colonel Jonatahn Conricus, indicated that Israel He was gathering evidence for the United States, but refused to commit to turning it over within the next two days.

“We are in the middle of a fight,” Conricus said Sunday. “That is in process and I am sure that information will be presented in due course.”
Buzbee said that for 15 years the AP had had offices in the Jala tower and had never been informed or had any indication that Hamas it could be in the building. He added that the facts must be presented.
“We are in a conflict situation,” Buzbee said. “We did not take parts in that conflict. We hear that the Israelis say they have evidence; we don’t know what that evidence is. ”
“We believe that at this time it is appropriate that there is an independent review of what happened yesterday, an independent investigation,” he added.
