The facility is equipped with a 3 Tesla magnetic resonance and a 64-layer CT scan. In addition to the patients of Montecatone RI, it will also serve those of Imola and the Irccs of Neurological Sciences of Bologna
MONTECATONE – The new Radiology of the Montecatone Institute, Service, was inaugurated this morning by the regional councilor for health policies of Emilia-Romagna, Raffaele Donini – in the presence, among others, of the mayor of Imola, Marco Panieri latest generation diagnostic equipped with a 3 Tesla Magnetic Resonance and a 64-layer CT scan.
The equipment, among the most modern on the market, is intended for clinical and research activities and, as explained by Mario Tubertini, Director General of Montecatone RI, «They will meet the diagnostic needs of our patients by avoiding their transfer to other sites to carry out scheduled or urgent investigations. But I’m also – he added – a fundamental piece of the offer aimed at the catchment area of the territory and the metropolitan area as it can be used for services that can be booked in the Imolese Cup agendas or for resonance investigations in patients coming from the specialist clinics of the IRCCS of Neurological Sciences of Bologna “.
Located near the Critical Area, the Radiology – whose work started in June 2020 and ended after four months last autumn – has been operational for a few months. In the first period, the presence of an MRI and operative CT scan in Montecatone made it possible to carry out the replacement work of the MRI at the New Hospital in Imola without interrupting the booking agendas and subsequently to increase the offer to reduce waiting times. The investment of approximately 2 million euros, entirely supported by the Institute, is significant.
“The acquisition of resonance and CT – Donini said – further qualifies the Montecatone Rehabilitation Institute, consolidating at the same time the relationship with the territory. We are in the context of a cutting-edge care institution that we want to continue to enhance as an integral part of the regional Health Service, in structural connection with the neuroscience area, strengthening its vocation – concluded the councilor – which already makes it a national reference point “.
“In a year full of difficulties, the Montecatone Institute has created a useful and long-awaited project – declared Giovanni Pieroni, President of the hospital board. The launch of the new radiology service marks an important milestone towards the implementation of the upgrading and modernization program envisaged by our Strategic Plan. The new radiology makes it possible to offer an essential service to the guests of the Institute but also to enhance, differentiate and qualify the entire high-tech diagnostic imaging network of the AUSL of Imola and of the Metropolitan area of Bologna. The technological level of the service and the high skills of the professionals involved – he added – ensure an enrichment and qualification of the diagnostic offer that will also be made available to the research activities of all the structures involved in the Metropolitan Area, as well as Montecatone itself and the Institute of Neurological Sciences of Bologna, increasing the potential for scientific research in various fields of medicine, without any interference but in synergy with routine diagnostic activities ».
Virna Valmori, Medical Director, underlined the diagnostic value of 3 Tesla MRI, «State-of-the-art equipment capable of restoring structural and functional images of the whole body, in particular in the neuroradiological field and therefore of particular importance for the patients of the Institute who have lesions of the spinal cord and brain. The high sensitivity allows us to identify pathologies that are difficult or not very visible with devices with a lower magnetic field. It derives from it – he explained again – a clinical-diagnostic advantage well demonstrated in the literature. The CT scan also allows an accurate study of the abdomen, thorax, spine, brain, limbs and joints with and without contrast medium and to perform a 3D virtual colonoscopy. Furthermore, the presence in Montecatone of radiologists who are experts in the neurological and orthopedic field as well as in the oncological field, allows for multi-parametric MRI of the prostate (in internal agendas reserved for patients followed by the Urology team of the Ausl di Imola). Following the examination, if the indications exist, the urology team will be able, during prostatic ultrasound, to use the images provided by the previously performed multi-parametric MRI – thanks to an innovative technique called Fusion – and perform targeted biopsy samples during ultrasound to suspicious areas. The advantages – concluded Valmori – are many: fewer biotic samples, greater sensitivity of the latter compared to a traditional guided ultrasound biopsy and a better evaluation for the surgical management of the patient with prostatic neoplasia ».
“The new radiology further strengthens and qualifies a structure of excellence such as the Montecatone Rehabilitation Institute – highlighted the mayor Panieri. This is a highly innovative investment from a technology point of view and very significant in economic terms, which enhances the health availability of the institution. A very important aspect, in fact, is that these latest generation equipment will be at the service of both the patients of Montecatone and the Imola health district and the metropolitan area. This further investment testifies how much Montecatone finds itself ever closer to a new path of growth and recognition of excellence, an important point of reference not only at the national level, in which we will have to continue to invest ».
