NEC can continue to dream about a return to the Eredivisie. The club from Nijmegen was not surprised by Almere City FC in the first round of the play-offs for promotion / relegation. The team of trainer Rogier Meijer won the game in Flevoland 4-0 and will play at home against Roda JC in the semi-finals on Thursday. The Limburg formation defeated De Graafschap in Doetinchem 3-2.
Almere City FC started the match strongly. In the 7th minute, attacker Thomas Verheydt opened the score, but his goal was rejected due to hands by teammate Ryan Koolwijk. Shortly afterwards, NEC goalkeeper Mattijs Branderhorst prevented a goal from Daniel Breedijk.
Halfway through the first half, NEC midfielder Jordy Bruijn was allowed to build from 11 meters after a foul by Tim Receveur. Goalkeeper Michael Woud made a great save.
After more than half an hour, Jonathan Okita still opened the score for NEC. The fast German took advantage of a mistake by Steve Tunga (0-1). Just before half-time, NEC received another penalty after a foul by Verheydt on Rens van Eijden. Bruijn made no mistake of 11 meters this time: 0-2.
Almere City FC also lacked scoring ability after half-time. NEC, on the other hand, knew what to do with the opportunities. Javier Vet and again Okita ensured a generous Nijmegen victory: 0-4.
