Purchase and coercion of the vote, as well as contributions of money or in kind of illicit origin, are the electoral crimes for which the Specialized Prosecutor for Electoral Crimes (FEDE) de la General Prosecutor of the Republic (FGR) opened an investigation folder against the candidates Adrián de la Garza Y Samuel Garcia to governor of Nuevo León.
Within its arguments to investigate Adrián de la Garza, the FGR explains that in the complaints filed against the former, a PRI candidate, he is accused of requesting the female vote in his favor, in exchange for the delivery of a “pink card“, Which allows obtaining money in case the candidate wins the elections.
On May 5, the president Andrés Manuel López Obrador denounced “as a citizen” that candidate De la Garza offers cards with financial support bimonthly.
The president asked the population to confirm whether the PRI candidate offers support of 1,500 or 1,800 every month, since it was “something he saw on social networks.” He also asked the Prosecutor’s Office to do its job in this case, while showing the cards.

The Prosecutor’s Office also explained that the investigation against the PRI candidate was based on the antecedents that have been presented in federal and local elections, by making use of social programs, cards and electronic wallets for the purchase and vote coercion.
In the case of the candidate of the Citizen Movement also for the governorship of Nuevo León, Samuel Garcia, the FGR specifies that in the complaint by the Financial Intelligence Unit (UIF) of the Ministry of Finance, is accused of receiving contributions in money or species of illicit origin used for electoral purposes.
However, the MC candidate is not the only one involved in the complaint, but his wife, the influencer, is also singled out. Mariana Rodriguez, as well as his father-in-law Jorge Rodríguez.

According to the FGR, said crimes indicated by the FIU are established in article 15 of the General Law on Electoral Crimes, which determines a fine “from one thousand to five thousand days and from five to fifteen years in prison, to anyone who makes, allocates, uses or receives contributions of money or in kind in favor of any candidate, candidate, political party, coalition or political group when there is a legal prohibition to do so, or when the funds or assets have an illicit origin, or in amounts that exceed those allowed by law.
“The penalty provided for in the preceding paragraph will be increased by up to one more half when the conduct is carried out in support of a pre-campaign or electoral campaign.”
Both candidates have rejected the accusations and have accused a state election. Samuel García assures that the only thing he is guilty of is being 15 points above in the polls, while De la Garza assures that the government’s intention is to put him in jail.

AMLO supports investigation against candidates
This morning, President Andrés Manuel López Obrador supported the work of the FGR, in relation to the investigations against the candidates Adrián de la Garza and Samuel García.
During his morning conference, he expressed his support for the decision of the Prosecutor’s Office, he also rejected the fact that a candidate -Adrián de la Garza- distributes cards using the people’s need, a covert and shameless purchase of the vote.

“That the Prosecutor’s Office investigate and apply the law, electoral fraud is a serious crime, but why was the Electoral Prosecutor’s Office created? Why was the Constitution amended? If it is going to continue the same, no, even if they get angry the hypocritical conservatives, there has to be democracy ”.
