Interested are the most cultivated areas and those identified along the ridge. “Making crops less and less vulnerable to the passage of ungulates”
Cinque Terre – New interventions for the installation of electricity networks to protect agricultural areas, to prevent damage caused by wild boars in the terraces. The Cinque Terre National Park enhances the works for the realization of the district protection. The intervention concerns the installation of the networks along the ridge and in the most cultivated areas and put back into production, such as the terraced area of the Manarola Foundation, on the hills overlooking the village. The body entrusted the design to the Dino Cosner company based in Mezzano, in the province of Trento, for an amount of 138 thousand euros. The strengthening of the electric fence is one of the first measures taken by the body led by President Donatella Bianchi, who already in the meetings of the last few months had announced that it was ready to work on the wild boar containment project and wanted to meet the farmers as soon as possible and winegrowers.
With the expansion of the district fences, both electric and metal, the Park has already opened consultations with specialized economic operators to entrust the installation work for the containment networks. The issue is among the priorities of the institution based in Manarola, which for greater effectiveness of the hunting action also continues the control and monitoring of agricultural activities with the aim, as stated in the project, to «make crops less and less vulnerable to ungulates through the use of direct and indirect control techniques, to be implemented also with integrated forms of voluntary collaboration by the technicians assigned to the control of the authorized wild boar and the local teams of forest firefighting volunteers and civil protection “.
With this new action on the part of the Park, the fences will therefore be expanded, affecting some areas in the Municipalities of Riomaggiore and Vernazza. The body has already started planning for the execution of the works relating to the first lot from the Biassa-Montenero tunnel, as regards Riomaggiore, and the second lot in the Cà d’Ercole-Corniglia area, as regards Vernazza. This last intervention requires the use of an additional sum of 48 thousand euros. “Given that – the resolution states – in the context of the fight against the prevention of damage caused by wildlife to crops within the territory of the Cinque Terre Park, it was possible to evaluate that the realization of a district closure could contribute to limit the incursions of animals, it was necessary to start planning the intervention and the definition for the construction of the lots functional to the execution of the works relating to the realization of the district protection ».
