As one of three players, Emil Forsberg is only tied to RB Leipzig until 2022. Where the future of the Swedes lies currently seems unclear – but the offensive artist knows one thing for sure: after the end of the season at the latest, nails should be done.
In conversation with the MDR Forsberg emphasized that it was not an option for him to start the coming 2021/22 season without an extension at RB Leipzig. “I made it very clear that I didn’t want that because I think there was a lot of risk,” said the 29-year-old, explaining that he would like to see a decision this summer. If the parties cannot then agree on an extension, it will inevitably amount to a sale.
The Swedish international announced that talks are currently taking place “behind the doors” – but there does not seem to be a clear trend. More than the statement that he thinks “the air in Leipzig is really good”, the 29-year-old was not elicited. “I have to concentrate on football, we want to play a title and the best season in the club’s history here,” he said.
His advisor is currently taking care of the rest. Forsberg stated that he naturally hoped to find a solution. “But I don’t know yet what it will be,” he let the speculations run wild.
In addition to Forsberg, Marcel Sabitzer and Marcel Halstenberg only have working papers with the Red Bulls that are valid until 2022. There is still a lot of work left for the current table runner-up.
