In Italy it is estimated that today there are one billion 200 million square meters of compact asbestos. Worldwide, more than 100,000 people die from asbestos-related diseases every year. The numbers are provided by the national asbestos counter, a voluntary organization that supports public administrators who decide to help their citizens understand, know and manage the asbestos risk. For this reason, today, on the world day in memory of the victims of asbestos, and after four years of research and investments, the Sportello launches the website www.visureamianto.it: a complex tool through which anyone can discover the risks related to the place where he lives, find the asbestos roofs and ask for protection and respect for the law and for the protection of health.
“Since 2017 we have been carrying out research in collaboration with a spin off of the University of Chieti which has shown, over time, to be able to field a unique technology that is now mature and agile to monitor the presence of asbestos on roofs of buildings around the world ”, says Fabrizio Protti, president of the national asbestos counter.
After being presented in Parliament, and tested for years on more than 24 thousand square kilometers in Italy and on 870 municipalities, the result of the study is ready to be offered to citizens: “The mapping carried out in recent years has led to optimizing speed, cost-effectiveness of the method and a complex superstructure achieving a perfect synthesis created to build and manage asbestos registries for entire nations in a short time ”, explains Protti.
“Anyone who wants to be informed can connect to the site to protect themselves and understand the state of the art of the area where they live, understand if in their daily lives they constantly face dangers related to proximity to asbestos or conduct preventive investigations to buy a property, without finding themselves unpleasant surprises for the wallet and for health ”.
It will be sufficient to enter the address to be monitored and activate a survey service that will return in a few days a technical opinion on the presence of asbestos in the roof of the indicated building. An easy to use and immediate tool in an Italy still plagued by thousands of (silent) deaths of asbestos every year.
