Some months ago, Triumph announced that they would venture into the “Rodaster-naked” segment with a new product: the Trident 660. From that moment on, fans of the British firm celebrated what could be considered the spiritual successor to the Street Triple 675.
However, filling the space of a motorcycle as important as the Street Triple 675 is not easy. It takes a lot of sophistication, power and style to achieve this, but it seems that the Trident 660 has these and many more cards going for it.
The entry bike to the segment “naked”From Triumph is more than meets the eye, and in these lines we tell you the essentials of this product.
In a world with motorcycles that gradually look more like unidentified flying objects due to their elaborate designs, the Trident 660 goes back to basics. The curved gas tank, with matte black metals and red accents, add style at first glance.
With a little more observation, we notice the classic details of Triumph in the model. The brand’s logo is present on the skull and gas cap. The handlebar is engraved with a trident due to the model and, among other things, the short and hidden exhaust outlet stands out.
Aesthetically, the bike has a sense of casual fun. This is the purpose of the naked roadster, and we believe that Triumph achieved a great design that mixes classic elements of the brand, with modern trends.
Compact and powerful
From the moment you sit on the new Trident 660, you realize that it is a motorcycle of contained dimensions. The handlebars are close to the rider, and the position of the brake and gear pedals are perfectly aligned with the shoulders, making the driving position extremely comfortable.
The Triumph Trident 660 feels agile from the first moment, and makes us take care of the amount of accelerator to use for moments, because it is more aggressive than you would think.
However, thanks to a slalom test, we understood that his behavior is friendly for close maneuvering situations. This means that in heavy traffic, you can find your own way with caution.
Mechanically, the Triumph Trident 660 uses a three-cylinder block with 81 horsepower. Despite being based on the Street Triple 675 engine, elements such as the intake body, pistons, cooling body and others are modified.
According to the brand, about 67 tinkering was done to the engine to make the Trident 660 feel like a higher displacement bike without sacrificing the benefits of a compact size.
Exciting from the start
There are motorcycles with which you need a few dozen kilometers traveled to begin to understand how it works and push it to the limit. The Trident 660 is not one of those, quite the opposite.
From the first moment it is a friendly tato and the emotion occurs almost instantly. It only remains to take it beyond 7,000 RPM to feel that the motorcycle asks us more and more to open the throttle.
81 horsepower is more than enough when paired with a good amount of torque and addictive exhaust sound. Shifting the six-speed manual gearbox is tough and mechanical, but we think this goes wonderfully with the product philosophy.
With a price that starts at $ 199,989 pesos without options, the Trident 660 It is not a motorcycle for everyone. Anyone willing to spend about 200 thousand pesos on a motorcycle is because they know what they are looking for, and in this case it is pure emotion.
The Triumph Trident 660 has much to compete against models like the Yamaha Mt-07, and we will love to see it roll through the streets carrying the spirit of freedom of the British brand high.
