The fright was really great, but the good news is that Jorge Martin is conscious after the bad accident that took place at turn 7, in the final minutes of the third free practice session of the Portuguese Grand Prix, which also led to the exposure of the flag red.
Unfortunately, once he got to the gravel, the Ducati Pramac rider was bumped by his bike as it rolled over and the images of the crash were certainly not for the faint of heart.
The Spaniard then remained lying on the ground in the escape route, but fortunately after a few minutes the indication came that Jorge was conscious, but in pain almost everywhere, and therefore was transferred to the medical center of the Portimao circuit after being immobilized.
The first tests he was subjected to on the circuit showed a trauma to the head, as well as to the right hand and right ankle. For this, it was decided to transfer him by helicopter to the Faro Hospital, where he will undergo a total body CT scan for further checks, and he has been declared unfit for the rest of the weekend.
“Jorge suffered a strong, high-energy trauma with several rolls. Initially he was conscious on the ground, but when the doctors arrived he seemed to have momentarily lost consciousness,” said Dr. Angel Charte, chief medical officer of MotoGP. DAZN.
“The neurological examination was normal, then he was always conscious and oriented, even if he felt a lot of pain. The initial diagnosis is a cranioencephalic trauma, in addition to the possibility of several fractures, probably to the right hand and right ankle”.
“We have decided to evacuate him to the hospital in Faro, where he will undergo a total body CT scan. The prognosis is not serious, but reserved. There is a fracture in his hand which I do not like very much, but I want to do a scan which will tell if He will have to be operated on. He also has a lot of pain in his knee, “he concluded.
