Some time ago we published the analysis of the Razer BlackWidow V3 Pro, a keyboard that could well be premium as it is above the rest of the brand’s high-end keyboards. Let’s say you have it all. Good finishes, quality switches and the latest technology. Now, the price can throw back more than one by having a RRP of more than 250 euros.
When it seemed that we were going to have to wait a long time to see a keyboard superior in characteristics to the BlackWidow V3 Pro, Razer launches the Hunstman V2 Analog model. Among the main features of this keyboard are the switches with replayable drive. What’s more, are capable of recording 360-degree motion inputs. Well, Razer has let us test the keyboard to do the analysis and, incidentally, check if the new switches that on paper promise more precise motion control are really noticeable.
Razer Hunstman V2 Analog – Raising the bar
I’ll start by talking about the packaging. In this sense there are no news. The gaming product brand is still quite conservative by keeping the same design. As I have commented on other occasions, this is not bad, in the end consumers associate the colors green and black with Razer. When we open the box, the first thing we see is the keyboard, well protected. When we have it in our hands, it shows that it weighs a lot and also the quality of the keys and the casing. On the latter, say that the top plate is aluminum. In the box, next to the keyboard, comes a wrist rest, the cables to connect it to the PC and a USB type C to type A adapter.
Razer Huntsman V2 Analog is a full-size keyboard. Regarding the distribution of the keys, although the unit that I was able to test had the US distribution, in our country it is for sale with layout IS. When connecting the keyboard we need two free USB connectors, and specifically a USB type A and USB type C. If our computer does not have USB type C ports we have to use the adapter that comes in the box.
The wrist rest connects to the proprietary connector on the front of the keyboard. The use of this accessory is optional. Now, in my case, I left it connected since it seems very comfortable. Also, it looks pretty good with Razer Chroma lighting. I have to make a point about the latter. We can turn off the lighting.
To avoid running out of free USB ports on our computer after connecting the keyboard, Razer has added a USB Type-A connector on the left side del Hunstman V2 Analog.
If there is something that I usually miss on some keyboards, it is the multimedia keys with a multifunction dial. Well, this keyboard has these keys and do not have to do a combination of «fn + key». In the Razer Huntsman V2 Analog we find these keys on the upper right side and they allow us to control everything related to audio and video playback.
As I have commented previously, in the box comes a wrist rest that although it is not essential, it never hurts. In the beginning, the material they have used for the surface looks good quality. Having Razer Chrome lighting is fine as it doesn’t clash with the keyboard lighting.
Let’s move on to the user experience. Analog optical switches are noisy, but when typing the feeling is very good. You hardly have to exert pressure to detect the pulsation and you can spend hours and hours playing that the experience is really good. To carry out office tasks they are also totally valid switches as they are very comfortable.
These analog optical switches have a characteristic that stands out from the rest of the switches that we find in other keyboards of the brand, and it is nothing other than the adjustable drive. This allows us to adjust the stroke path to our liking. Plus, they can record 360-degree motion inputs just like a console controller. Returning to the topic of replayable drive, from Razer Synapse we can assign two functions to the same key. For example, in the first press our character just walks, and if we carry out a second press he starts to run. However, it offers many more possibilities. It can also be useful for doing skill rotations in MMORPGs, combos, and much more.
The quality of the keys is quite good as it is made of double injection PBT. They are supposed to be more durable than ABS plastic keys. According to Razer, they do not wear and do not lose the glossy finish. However, this I cannot affirm since the keyboard is new and has little use. Theirs would be to use the keyboard for a long time and giving it a lot of use. For the rest, I can only say that the keyboard does not disappoint in any way. Well, there is a catch that I will comment on in the final conclusion.
Razer Synapse – More indispensable than ever
The Razer Synapse 3 software is an old acquaintance among users of the brand. Installing this program is essential if we want to enjoy all the features that compatible products offer us. From Razer Synapse 3 we have control of lighting, customization of keys, profiles and more.
Everything related to the adjustable drive that allows us to customize the path of the pulsations and the actuation in two steps requires Razer Synapse 3 installed. Modifying the drive is very easy and is done from the menu Personalize and more specifically in the section Macro.
Currently Razer Synapse 3 is only available for Windows. Nevertheless, I have tested the Razer Huntsman V2 Analog on GNU / Linux (Ubuntu 20.10) and the multi-function dial and multimedia keys work perfectly. By cons, we can not enjoy all the features of the keyboard. Everything related to lighting, adjustable key operation and built-in memory is not accessible.
If you are a GNU / Linux user, I remind you that you can download OpenRazer 3 (unofficial software) to enjoy all the features of certain Razer products on the penguin operating system. La versión 3.0.0 soporta estos dispositivos: Razer Blade Stealth (hasta 2020), Razer DeathAdder V2 Pro, Razer Mouse Bungee V3 Chroma, Razer Ornata Chroma V2, Razer DeathAdder V2 Mini, Razer Base Station V2 Chroma, Razer Firefly V2, Razer Naga Left-Handed Edition, Razer Book 13 2020, Razer Basilisk V2, Razer Cynosa Chroma Pro, Razer Mouse Dock, Razer Charging Pad Chroma y Razer Huntsman Mini.
Razer Huntsman V2 Analog es a keyboard that doesn’t disappoint. The gaming product brand has thrown the house out of the window and, from my point of view, the play has turned out well. If it were another keyboard I could say that it has the three Bs: good, nice and cheap. Nevertheless, cheap has nothing. The latter would be the only bad thing to have a RRP of 269.99 euros. It is not cheap, but it is also true that we are talking about a premium keyboard.
It is not a keyboard for all types of users. If you play occasionally, it is not intended for you, although this does not mean that you will not enjoy it. Another thing is that it is worth paying what it is worth and then taking advantage of everything it offers. If we take a look at other Razer keyboards there are much cheaper high-end models. For example, you have the Razer BlackWidow Elite for about 170 euros.
