(ANSAmed) – TEL AVIV, MARCH 01 – The friendship matured, in very difficult circumstances, between the Iranian judoka Saeid Mollaei and the Israeli Sagi Muki will be the basis for a television series produced by US television MGM and Israeli Tadmor Entertainment, with the assistance of the International Judo Federation. The site Ynet reports that a documentary will also be made alongside the fiction. According to a press release from the production, “the incredible but true story of the Iranian Saeid Mollaei, one of the most courageous athletes in history, will be retraced, who despite the threats of his managers refused to surrender” to those who wanted to prevent him from competing also with athletes from Israel, a country Iran refuses to recognize; consequently “Mollaei was forced to leave his country and live as a refugee in Germany”. In February the two friends, Mollaei and Muki, met in Tel Aviv, on the occasion of the Grand Slam and predictably both will be at the Tokyo Olympics. “This is a story of courage, of brotherhood beyond all limits, in the true spirit of sport,” said the production.
