A “Ioniq”In the Hyundai range already exists, and is declined in hybrid or electric sauce. However, the Korean group has decided to make the Ioniq name shine with its own light, giving it the benefit of becoming an independent brand, made up of 100% electric models: the first debut is called 5 and is a two-volume design with a strong personality, inspired by that of the 45 EV Concept, presented in 2019. Looking at it, the integration of the lights into the bodywork is interesting, as is the treatment given to the side and the side silhouette.
4.63 meters long, the car is built on the basis of the e-Gmp platform, rests on 20 ”wheels and boasts a wheelbase of 3 meters, guaranteeing excellent interior space. The load compartment is also generous, with a volume ranging from 531 to 1,591 liters (there is also a small front compartment, where to store the charging cables). Inside, the bridge uses two 12 “screens, dedicated to instrumentation and infotainment. But there is also the head-up display with augmented reality, which projects the main driving information on the windscreen, in the driver’s field of vision. .
There are ample options regarding the powertrain: there are two batteries to choose from, with capacities of 58 and 72.6 kWh. The smallest is combined with a 170 HP electric motor, but the Ioniq 5 can also be had with four-wheel drive: in this case there is a 72 HP motor on the front axle, while a 163 HP one behind it. The 72.6 kWh version, on the other hand, has a 218 bhp engine, while if you opt for four-wheel drive, the front axle gets a 95 bhp and a 211 bhp behind it. The result is a zero-hundred sprint which, depending on the configuration, oscillates between 8.5 and 5.2 seconds. Autonomy still to be defined, but the manufacturer hopes to be able to touch the 480 km approved for the higher capacity battery.
We come to the charging times, which benefit from 800 Volt technology with speeds up to 350 kW: with the fast columns it is possible to recover 80% of the energy in 18 minutes (and about 100 km of autonomy in five minutes). The safety features are very complete, including automatic emergency braking, lane change assistance, adaptive cruise control and road sign recognition. The car will be ordered from next summer: first a full optional launch version will arrive, with prices from 60 thousand euros; later more affordable editions will debut, with a price list of around 45 thousand euros.
