The nursing home reported the outbreak a week ago. At the time, 70 residents had tested positive and two had died. The number of infections among the personnel was limited. The outbreak occurred shortly after a first round of vaccination had taken place in the nursing home.
‘Very vulnerable group’
The nursing home has posted a statement on the website: They say they cannot say with certainty whether the deaths are a direct result of the corona infection. “That’s because it concerns a very vulnerable target group with a lot of underlying suffering. We are seeing a higher number of deaths than usual.”
In the meantime, the number of infections among the residents has dropped from 70 to 37. In addition to the 22 deceased residents, 19 residents who had previously tested positive have been recovered.
‘Situation drastically affects residents’
“This situation puts an enormous strain on the residents, their loved ones and of course on our employees. We sympathize with everyone and do everything we can to support them as much as possible”, says Evelien Bongers of the board of directors of Beweging 3.0. That is the organization under which the Sint Elisabeth Nursing and Gasthuis falls.
