SANA, the international exhibition of organic and natural products, will return with the 33rd edition from 9 to 12 September at the Bologna Exhibition Center, organized by BolognaFiere in collaboration with FederBio / Assobio and with the support of ITA, Italian Trade Agency for internationalization actions.
The post-pandemic edition of the main national event, among the largest in Europe for the organic and natural sector, gives an appointment, in attendance, with new initiatives that will underline the importance and centrality of the event for the entire supply chain which has been strengthened by a year that has put a strain on the world economy.
In the key of economic, environmental and social sustainability in the last year the role of biological it manifested itself with even greater force, demonstrating solidity and ample opportunities for growth, determined by an extremely receptive market towards organic products and an increasingly marked international attention to organic made in Italy.
The organic market in 2020 recorded, in Italy, a sales value of 4,358 million euros, with a growth rate of + 142% in 2020 compared to 2010 (year ended August). At the same time, the value of organic exports stood at 2,619 million euros (same year) with a significant growth, also in this case, + 149% in 2020 over 2010 and + 3.5% compared to 2019 (Source: Observatory SANA 2020).
The positioning of Italy in terms of exports is also decidedly positive; our country in 2020 placed itself at the top in the ranking for organic exported, in second place behind the USA and ahead of European competitors in the ranking (Spain and France, respectively in third and fifth position) and China on the fourth step.
In this context, participation in international fairs dedicated to organic products is considered by organic companies to be the first promotional tool towards foreign markets and SANA, due to the consolidated know-how and initiatives implemented at the institutional level with ICE-ITA and with the main digital platforms it is, without doubt, the ideal platform for developing business on foreign markets.
Since the last edition of the event, BolognaFiere and SANA have maintained an active dialogue with the organic business community, promoting new initiatives for companies and operators in the sector.
Examples are: the agreement between BolognaFiere it’s atlibaba.com which has put in synergy the exhibition platforms of BolognaFiere (in particular SANA) with the platform of the world leader in B2B online commerce, where over 26 million buyers operate daily, active in 190 countries around the world; the reconfirmation of the strategic partnership between BolognaFiere e FederBio to offer new opportunities to organic companies interested in reaching the Chinese market and expanding online commercial strategies and the partnership between BolognaFiere and Phenix Exhibitions, organizer in Xiamen of the main event for organic food, the China International Organic Food Expo (CIOFE) which sees a strong participation of companies specialized in organic fruit and vegetables, a sector for which it represents the ideal platform for entry into China. Consistently China International Organic Food Expo has been identified by ICE-ITA Agency as a priority trade fair platform for the promotion of national organic food in China.
To the promotion of biological The recent agreement promoted by BolognaFiere between Federbio and the China Organic Food Certification Center (COFCC), the main national control and certification body for organic products in China, which also owns the CIOFE fair, also contributes to Asian markets.
But BolognaFiere’s promotional activity did not take place only on the Chinese market: in recent months, operators have in fact been able to participate in a series of webinars that have proposed focuses on the countries with the greatest commercial outlets, such as the USA, thanks to the ICE and FederBio ITA Bio in which BolognaFiere also actively participates.
It is with this intense development and networking activity between the players in the sector that SANA presents itself, in September 2021, with a format enriched in contents and initiatives that will increase its vision of the supply chain.
The third edition of REVOLUTION BIO is scheduled for the opening of SANA 2021, the initiative promoted by BolognaFiere, in collaboration with FederBio / Assobio and with the Organizational Secretariat of Nomisma, which has become an opportunity for discussion between institutions, players in the supply chain and sector experts on issues of primary importance and topicality that will be even more central in the post-pandemic experience. As usual, the SANA 2021 Observatory will be presented in the context of BIO REVOLUTION, the report that monitors the key numbers of the organic supply chain, from production to market size. The Observatory, also in this edition, is promoted by BolognaFiere and curated by Nomisma, with the patronage of FederBio and AssoBio and the support of ICE.
The SANA 2021 exhibition project includes six thematic areas: FOOD, CARE & BEAUTY, GREEN LIFESTYLE, SANA TECH, SANA TEA and FREE FROM HUB.
Among the novelties for 2021 the new SANA TECH thematic exhibition (International Review of the organic and natural production chain), a fair within the fair that will be a showcase for producers of seeds, semi-finished products, raw materials, equipment, ingredients and technologies at the service of biological. An innovative initiative, with a global vision on the entire organic production process which, every year, will develop focuses dedicated to large thematic areas ranging from natural and organic cosmetics to agriculture, from livestock to ingredients. SANA TECH will be an important opportunity for visibility for a sector in which Italy plays a leading role at an international level for the extraordinary know-how acquired by national producers and research in organic production, according to guaranteed and certified methods. SANA TECH is a BolognaFiere event that will be curated by the specialized partner Avenue Media.

SANA TEA focuses on a market – the one related to tea and herbal teas – whose global turnover in the world will represent a value of 4.2 billion dollars in 2025 and which has recorded, in the last year, an increase of 4 , 2 percent (Source Market Research Future); of this market SANA TEA will analyze the orientation, novelties and benefits related to infusion drinks. SANA TEA is organized by BolognaFiere in collaboration with the In Tè association (which has been organizing a festival entirely dedicated to tea and tea lovers since 2017).
