Cell 126. This tender dog has not even a real name for sixteen years locked up in the Taranto kennel. This is how they identify him, with the number of his box, where he spent his whole life: yes, because he entered that cell number 126 when he was a puppy.
Nothing is known about him: his information shows that he entered the facility in 2005, a few months old, as a stray. And since then no one has looked for him. But to say it all are his big sad eyes, marked by a life behind bars without having committed any crime.
He is one of the many invisible ones. It is located in a kennel where there are 540 dogs and it does not have a name like most of them, unfortunately », says Erika Niccolai, dog educator and volunteer of Oipa, Taranto section, which is promoting their adoption. Since he entered the kennel «16 long years have passed. 16 years of torment, pain and loneliness ».
Nobody ever stopped in front of his cage, not even when he was a puppy. In recent years “I have seen many of my companions in misfortune go away and I have seen many others die. They told me that outside this cage everything is different, they say that the sun has a different color when seen not only through these bars. I am here waiting for my chance to live with my backpack full of dreams beside me, always ready to accompany me wherever there is love for me, for what I have left to live “.
An appeal of the heart, to allow this dog to know for the first time the warmth of a loving family and home and to spend the time he has left on this Earth in serenity. «Let’s not abandon him. Let’s not let him die in that cage where he spent his entire life », asks Erika, in the hope that a family will soon be found willing to welcome him. And even though he is in Puglia today, “by good adoption he reaches wherever there is love for him”. Who can change the life of Cell 126 can contact Erika at 329/8338987.
