For what the hell of reason, one should “kill” a historic brand like Lancia? Today the same cars are exploited, in terms of chassis, engines and technology, and different bodies and interiors are built around them, which can then be higher (if you are looking for a premium brand) or lower (if you are looking for something cheap) quality / range. Here, Stellantis’ decision is not only not to close Lancia, but also to relaunch it and make it a high-level brand.
The relaunch of Lancia
The official Stellantis document is clear enough. Not only does he mention who will be the directors and managers, but also the various designers of the various brands belonging to the group, including the Turin brand. Inside, there is also a mighty relaunch of Alfa Romeo, which will be positioned, as if to “close” a triptych, with DS. These three will therefore be above Peugeot and Opel, real premium brands. Only the Maserati will be above all, as it is identified as the “Luxory” brand. Another confirmation comes for the main brands, defined with three names: Citroen, Fiat and Abarth. As for the “Global SUV”, we will have Jeeps, while the “American Brands” will be strictly Chrysler, Dodge and RAM.
Ypsilon: “I dance alone”
What is there at the moment for the Lancia brand? Only and exclusively her, the Lancia Ypsilon. For now, the city car sold in the Bel Paese alone will undergo a further restyling, waiting to see something new. The managing director of the Torinese brand will be Luca Napolitano, a key man who in the past has managed from the management to the sales of the brand. We might initially see an electric Lancia Ypsilon, but that’s all to see.
how will the future be?
In addition to the new Ypsilon, we will certainly see a sedan, perhaps a hybrid. After all, the platforms, as mentioned at the beginning, are there. The modular platforms of PSA origin, or the EMP1 and EMP2 to understand each other, in addition to the most recent electric platform eVmp. Of course, we would all like to see something sporty and maybe a new Thema or Thesis, based on Alfa Romeo Giulia, could be interesting … now, like Lancia, he is completely absent. We, we want to believe it!
