Chantal de Vries was on her way home that night, after a long evening of work in a cafe. She was stabbed seven times near her car. Her screams were captured on a video doorbell. Other images show that the suspect chased her in the center for about 7 minutes before the murder. According to the OM, the man could have deliberated at that time, but he continued his murder plan. In addition, the man had a large open pocket knife in his pocket.
“It is not a question who did it,” said the public prosecutor. “He’s on the screen and he admitted it himself. We just don’t know why. He doesn’t answer that. The suspect had no motive. It seems as if he was only aiming to kill someone. Don’t touch it. think that this unpredictable, explosive and dangerous man will one day end up on the street again without treatment.
A year before the murder, the suspect opened two striking articles on the internet: ‘The most gory Christmas murders‘ in ‘Young woman died after stabbing‘. In addition, he acted calculatingly on Christmas Eve 2019, says the OM. “After the murder he dumped the knife and hidden his sweater and jacket.”
The suspect only said that “the knife was suddenly in her.” For the rest he says he knows nothing more about the murder. Justice does not believe any of that.
After suspect Wim V. stabbed the young woman to death, he was caught by a passerby. He saw that Wim V. was sitting on top of Chantal, whose pants were pulled down. When the passer-by tried to save the woman, the suspect flew into him. He pressed his eyes into the witness’s sockets with his thumbs. With his action, the passer-by may have been able to prevent rape of the victim.
Suspect Wim V. has indicated that he would like to be treated psychologically. He says he himself suffers from various psychological disorders. It is not known what those would be, because he frustrated psychological research. “He acted differently and filled in questionnaires incorrectly,” said the OM.
Nevertheless, specialists conclude that there must be a disorder, given his troubled childhood and old psychological reports. They say: “He is a solo man with limited social skills. He reacts explosively in conflict.” The Public Prosecution therefore assumes that Wim V. is somewhat insane.
The parents of Chantal de Vries spoke to the suspect earlier today, in an emotional argument.
The court passes judgment on February 16.
